The "Art Magazine" in South Africa struggles to survive in the tight economic climate of the country and many attempts have been made to establish an art magazine that will find a sustainable market for itself. ADA or art design and architecture was edited by Jennifer Sorell and lasted for a few years during the late 1980's and early 1990's. It was a super large format magazine, which was well designed and embraced all the facets of the vibrant art world that South Africa has to offer. The art magazine ADA still holds pride of place on many bookshelves. Few art magazine have managed to embrace all aspects of art in South Africa and some tend to become bogged down in the art/craft debate or try too hard to imitate conceptual art orientated international publications.
Most good book shops in South Africa will carry an art magazine range.
